Prosocial Behavior & Digital Thriving

Welcome to our first live recording of the 'Safety is Sexy' podcast. This week I am joined by Weszt Hart, Head of Player Dynamics at Riot Games, to discuss prosocial behavior in online gaming. Weszt shares insights from his extensive experience emphasizing the importance of creating game environments that encourage building trust and fostering positive player interactions. We delve into the definition of prosocial behavior emphasizing actions that benefit others, whether intentional or not. We include practical examples from various games, strategies for fostering trust, and the broader goal of digital thriving.

About Weszt:
Weszt is the Head of Player Dynamics at Riot Games, where he is helping Riot “git gud” at social design, development, policies, and programs. He is a 13 year veteran of the gaming industry, co-project lead and author for the Digital Thriving Playbook, and a board member of the Thriving in Games Group.
Weszt’s career mission is to “make social simple” for gaming and tech companies. The goal is to help over three billion gamers thrive. Weszt’s personal mission is to “make darkness uplifting” which he strives to do through his original rock music (see “Weszt” on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.). More than a hobby, Weszt was a signed musician and touring artist back in the day.
